In order to be a member of the American Legion, you must have been on active duty with the Armed Forces of the United States of America for at least one day during one of the following periods of conflict:

You must have been Honorably Discharged or are still serving Honorably in the Armed Forces. Please note that, due to the repeal of "Don't Ask. Don't Tell", Post 448 does not recognize discharges from the Armed Services under 'less than honorable conditions', when such discharge was made for 'Homosexual Conduct'. Veterans discharged for such conduct are welcome to apply and acceptance for membership is subject to review of your DD214 and other pertinent discharge papers. Post 448 will assist the new member in upgrading their discharge to Honorable.
Armed Forces of the United States of America is defined as being the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, or Merchant Marines of the U.S.A.
The dues for membership in Post 448 are $35.00 annually.
Membership in the Sons of the American Legion is reserved for those male children, grandchildren, or other accepted relation of an Honorably Discharged Veteran who would qualify as a member of the American Legion. Dues for SAL are $20.00 annually.
If you are not eligible for membership in the American Legion or SAL, you may wish to join the Alexander Hamilton Veterans Association. Members in the Association share in all activities of the Post, but cannot hold office or vote. Dues in the Association are $20.00 per year.
